School Attendance Service

The Attendance Service is available to all schools and their communities in North Canterbury, (Waimakariri and Hurunui), through a contract between Community Wellbeing North Canterbury Trust the Providers Te Ora Hou Otautahi and the Ministry of Education.

About our service

It is a legal requirement in New Zealand that children aged between 6 and 16 must be enrolled at a registered school, and shall attend the school whenever it is open.

At some times, and often for a combination of reasons some children do not attend school regularly, which is where we come in.

We work closely with schools and with your child or young person so that they can attend school regularly and get the best possible start in life. Often we include other community and family services and others to help to achieve this.

The Service works closely with Police Youth Aid, Oranga Tamariki, Community Youth Workers,  as well as with other recognised services in the community that support young people and their families.
