Our History
We pride ourselves on being uniquely local.
For more than 30 years, Community Wellbeing North Canterbury Trust has been working to create a resilient North Canterbury by providing free social and community services.
Your Trust has seen the community through many crises including drought and earthquakes, and is now working to help our community to not only survive Covid-19, but to come through it thriving.
Your Trust has been recognised with business awards from Enterprise North Canterbury and a Prime Minister’s Education Excellence Award.
Community Wellbeing began life in 1988 as the Kaiapoi Community Development Trust when a group of local residents recognised and responded to the needs of disadvantaged people in the community, initially by employing a community worker to support them.
In the 1990s the Trust expanded its scope to include the whole of the Waimakariri and became known as the Waimakariri District Community Development Trust.
We pride ourselves on being uniquely local
Your Trust’s services strengthen the wellbeing of whānau, rangatahi and tamariki across the whole of North Canterbury.
In 2010 the Trust became Wellbeing North Canterbury Community Trust to better reflect the scope of its service delivery, which had expanded to encompass both the Waimakariri and Hurunui Districts.
Named Community Wellbeing North Canterbury Trust since 2012, your Trust’s services strengthen the wellbeing of whānau, rangatahi and tamariki across the whole of North Canterbury.
The Trust is governed by a Board which is made up of representatives from across the district.
Throughout the Trust’s history, close alliances have formed with the community, government, and other agencies, including the Waimakariri and Hurunui District Councils, foundations, philanthropic trusts and businesses. We value our relationship with each and every one of these partners.
